Mumbai Receives Over 1,000MM Rainfall In August Already, Set For Record
Mumbai: There are still eight days to go this month, but Mumbai has already received over 1,000 mm of rainfall during August.
The Santacruz weather observatory has recorded 1020.1 mm rain in Mumbai and its suburbs between August 1 and 23. Another 16.4 mm will break the highest monthly rainfall mark for the decade — 1036.5 in August 2010.
India’s financial capital is also just 79 mm short of breaching the 3,000 mm mark for the season. Mumbai has recorded 66% excess rain than the normal for the period between June 1 and August 21.
To put things in perspective, the entire Odisha state has received about 815 mm of rain during the same period (June 1-August 21, 2020).
Overall, Maharashtra has recorded 19% excess rain for the season so far.
