Bhubaneswar: Reiterating the views of Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on imposition of day curfew in Odisha, Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das on Monday said that it cannot be completely ruled out considering the resurgence in COVID-19 cases.

Briefing the mediapersons here, the minister said that Odisha has been witnessing a surge in daily COVID-19 caseload with cases being detected at railway stations, airport and a number of educational institutions.

“The state government is closely monitoring the situation and will take a decision on imposing day curfew if the need arises. As of now, the district collectors have been asked to impose night curfew if the positive cases continue to rise,” he added.

Night curfew will be imposed in 10 districts, eight of which shares borders with Chhattisgarh, from Monday.

Referring to the massive surge in COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh, Das said that the official observers are now camping in the border areas to oversee the strict implementation of COVID-19 protocols.

On Sunday, the Speaker on Sunday had said that the Chief Minister is reviewing the COVID-19 situation at present and a decision on day curfew is likely to be taken in 4-5 days.

Later in the day, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) tweeted that there was no such plan at this stage.
