Odisha Task Force To Define Disaster Management Subject In Schools: Minister

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has proposed to include disaster management as a subject in school curriculum.

The decision will be implemented on the basis of the report of a task force formed on the directive of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash told the media.

“The task force will decide the chapters on disaster management and from which class the subject will be taught. On the basis of its report, the School and Mass Education Department will take necessary steps accordingly,” the minister said.

Dash further said Odisha has received accolades from the Centre and several international agencies for effectively managing natural calamities with an aim to ensure zero casualties.

The Chief Minister’s foresight to introduce disaster management in school and college curricula to enable protection to each family against natural calamities is indeed commendable, he added.
