Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan posted the UGC letter to the university and wrote: “Kalahandi MP Basanta Panda had informed me about the need for the recognition. The UGC has come up with the notification for the benefit of the students of the region.”
Once the university completes all formalities, it will receive a central grant, which will help to further strengthen its infrastructure, he added.
“The university shall operate only within the territorial jurisdiction allotted to it under its Act and in no case beyond the territory of the state. The University is not allowed to start on off-campus centre beyond the jurisdiction as provided in the Act and under no circumstances beyond the state,” the notification said.
In 2019, the state government had upgraded Bhawanipatna Government Autonomous College to Kalahandi University. Around 50 colleges of Kalahandi and Nuapada districts are affiliated with it.
