Amarinder Singh Meets Amit Shah; Is The Former Punjab CM BJP-Bound?
New Delhi: Former Punjab chief minister and senior Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh drove to Amit Shah’s residence on Wednesday evening for a meeting with the Union Home Minister.
A ‘humiliated’ Amarinder resigned as Punjab CM 10 days ago disgusted with the Congress leadership which seemed to have put its weight behind Navjyot Singh Sidhu. The former Team India opener had been appointed Punjab state president of Congress party recently.
Though Sidhu was tipped to succeed Amarinder, lack of consensus ultimately led to Charanjit Singh Channi being sworn in as Punjab’s first Dalit CM.
Amarinder was very vocal against Sidhu and vowed to ensure that the latter didn’t become Punjab chief minister.
After Sidhu resigned as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president, Amarinder again trained his gun on the former BJP Parliamentarian.
Speculation was rife that Amarinder would switch to BJP, though he remained tight-lipped on the issue. He arrived in the capital on Wednesday amid reports of possible meetings with Shah and BJP president JP Nadda.
