World Laughter Day: Watch 5 Classics That Will Tickle Your Funny Bone

Humour lightens your burdens and as they says nothing works faster to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh.

If you are not a social birdie and prefer staying home, then catch up on some movies to brighten your day. On World Laughter Day, celebrated on the first Sunday of May, we bring you some of the classic Indian movies which have inspired numerous memes, sarcasms and quirky one-liners forever.

1. Jathi Ratnalu

This 2021 Telugu film made on a shoe string budget proves there is no fixed formula for a chuckle some movie. Directed by Anudeep KV this movie follows the story of three friends from a remote town in Andhra Pradesh who plan to travel to Hyderabad in search of a job but get caught in a soup for a crime that they did not commit. Newbie’s Naveen Polishetty, Rahul Ramakrishna and Naresh does terrific job in their roles pull off the tropes brilliantly.

2. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan

Hitesh Kewalaya’s film which deals with same sex relationship and sexual orientation of gay people would crackle up audience for its brilliant portrayal of humour prejudices of the society. This film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar, follows the love story of Karthik and Aman who fall in love with each other but they face tiff when Aman’s family refuse to budge on their decisions.

3. Doctor

This less talked Tamil film released in 2021 should be everyone’s bucket list for its powerful punchline delivery and exciting plot.

Directed by Nelson Dillip Kumar, this movie staring Siva Karthikeyan in lead role follows the story of an Army doctor who is set to hunt down the niece of his former fiancée from a human a human trafficking ring leader for which he hatches a coy plan so he could rescue the rest of trafficked girls.

Yogi Baabu’s hand slamming scenes and the funny banters with a police cop and maid are the hilarious parts of this movie. Doctor is currently streaming on Netflix.

4. Chhichhore

Director Nitesh Tiwari’s best commercial entertainer sports late Sushant singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Naveen Polishetty, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Varun Sharma in lead roles. This movie follows the story of Anirudh whose son attempts suicide due to failure in entrance exam which leads to Anirudh narrating the best humorous incidents of his college life and how it helped in shaping his character. Sexa and Acid’s punchlines as well as the incidents in college competition are the best parts of this movie. Chhichhore is currently streaming on Disnep Hotstar.

Honourable Mention

Janne Bhi Do Yaaro

This old classic movie is timeless in its pun and social messaging in every way. Director Kundan Shah’s portrayal of an emerging India in 80s depicts the realistic portrayal of its corruption post independence and shows indefatigable efforts of two photographers in exposing it.

Some of the most memorable scenes from this movie are the hilarious perverse representation of acts of Mahabharat (Draupadi disrobing scene) where perplexity takes the centre stage due to last minute mismanagement which makes the audience crackle and burst into laughter. This movie stars Naseerudin Shah, Om Puri, Satish Kaushik, Pankaj Kapoor and Ravi Baswani.
