Bhubaneswar: To reduce energy consumption, the Housing and Urban Development Department on Thursday signed an MoU with Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL), a joint venture company of PSUs of Ministry of Power for implementation of Street Light National Programme.
According to the agreement, conventional lights would be replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs in all 107 urban local bodies (ULBs) within a year with an investment of nearly Rs 75 crore.
The EESL would be responsible for maintenance and monitoring for a period of seven years, it stated.
Through the joint initiative, the state government aims to save energy to the tune of 35.97 million units per annum costing around Rs 26.97 crore.
