Aizawl: As many as 274 Bangladeshi nationals crossed over to Mizoram to take refuge in India’s northeastern state, Hindustan Times reported quoting an official. Of the 274, there are 125 women and children.
As an armed conflict broke out between Bangladesh Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and ethnic separatist group Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA), these people from Bangladesh villages opted for a safer haven and entered Siminasora village in Mizoram’s southernmost Lawngtlai district on Sunday.
The Bangladesh nationals reportedly are from Kuki-Chin-Mizo community.
Mizoram shares a 318 km long international border with Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh refugees are being provided relief on humanitarian ground by the district administration and non-government organisations (NGOs).
KNA is the armed unit of Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), formed by the ethnic Kuk-Chin-Mizo community in Bangladesh. It has been demanding a separate state and safeguard for the community in Bangladesh.
