Berhampur: Amid ragging menace in educational institutions in Berhampur, an incident of blackmailing has come to the fore with the arrest first-year BTech student of Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC) by Gopalpur police on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as N Sachin Mohanta, a resident of Murgbadi in Baripada.
According to sources, he was allegedly blackmailing a girl at his institute by threatening to make her nude video viral. He was arrested after the girl student lodged a complaint against him at Gopalpur police station tried of his continuous threats and demand for money.
Earlier, she had moved the college authority and the Internal Complaint Committee also investigated her complaint.
Police said that the boy managed to capture some nude video clips of the girl after getting into a relationship with her. He had since been blackmailing her and continuously demanding money. He allegedly shared some of those video clips with the relatives of the girl.
PMEC is a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha.
