Fact Check: Did Rani Mukerji Join Films To Help Her Family?

Mumbai: Rani Mukherjee is excited as she is returning to films after almost two years.

‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’ is due to release in theatres on March 17, and the trailer has been very well received.

More than 25 years after she took her bow in the industry, Rani has revealed that she wasn’t very keen on joining the film industry despite being born in a family with Bollywood connections.

It was her mother who asked her to give it a shot. Though she didn’t realise it at that time, Rani could actually provide some financial support to the family by working.

“When an offer came my way my mother very politely put it to me that try it, if it doesn’t work for you, you can go back to studies. Maybe I didn’t realise at that time, the situation in my family was such that there was a need of financial help. But I didn’t think of this much as no child thinks their parents aren’t doing well,” Rani recalled in an interview with Pinkvilla.

Rani made her acting debut with a Bengali film ‘Biyer Phool’ in 1996 at the age of 18. Later that year, her first Hindi movie ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’ was released.

“The kind of lifestyle that my parents tried to give me and my brother, it was quite comfortable. I’m so glad that she did because I’m really in love with my profession today,” Rani said, revealing that she had initially thought of becoming a lawyer or an interior designer.

Rani was last seen in ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ which featured Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh.
