Ahmedabad: The fourth and final Test between India and Australia will get underway on Thursday in the presence of Prime Ministers of both countries – Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese.
The match, to be played in the specially decked-up stadium — named after the Indian PM with a capacity in excess of 1 lakh — is likely to see a change in cricketing tradition.
The home team’s captain usually flips the coin at the toss, while the visiting skipper calls ‘heads’ or ‘tails.’
Tomorrow, however, PM Modi could do the honours and toss the coin.
According to reports, Modi could also take up the microphone and turn commentator for some time.
The two leaders will take a lap of the ground in a specially designed chariot.
Security has been beefed up for the PMs’ visit to the cricket stadium on the opening day, with Special Protection Group (SPG) having taken charge of the venue.
Modi had visited the refurbished stadium during the inauguration of National Games last year, but this is the first time he will be watching a Test after its renaming.
Albanese’s ongoing visit to India is part of celebrations relating to the 75 years of Indo-Australia friendship.
