Tusker Tramples Woman To Death In Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In yet another case of man-animal conflict in Odisha, an elderly woman was trampled to death by a tusker in Sadar forest range of Keonjhar district on Wednesday.

Panic gripped the area after the 60-year-old woman got killed in the tusker attack.

According to the sources, the incident took place on early morning when the woman had gone to the nearby forest to collect mushroom.

She was identified as Palu Nayak of Sendcap village, about 10 km from Keonjhar.

On getting information, the Forest Department staff rushed to the spot and drove away the tusker into Jadipada forest.

The body was later seized and sent to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem.

There has been an increase in wild animal attacks in Keonjhar in which proved fatal for many people. The locals have also been demanding life security and compensation of their crop loss and house damages in such cases.

On July 2, an elderly man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Budhikani under Bisra Forest Range in Sundargarh district.

The elephant dragged the deceased, identified as Umesh Mund (50), and crushed him under his feet while he was standing in front of his house. According to locals, this wild elephant had killed as many as 13 persons in Sundargarh district.
