Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely to resume in Odisha again from September 18, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.

Amid the probability of a fresh cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal next week with west-northwestwards movement towards North Bay of Bengal, the weather agency has issued yellow warning of heavy rain for one or two places in Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Cuttack and Angul districts on September 18. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh and Rayagada.

The intensity of rain is likely to increase thereafter.

On September 19, heavy rain may lash one or two places in Ganjam, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Khurda and Cuttack districts. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Kandhamal.

On September 20, heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Khurda and Boudh.

There will be little change in the weather conditions in the subsequent two days, it added.

Notably, rainfall deficit during this monsoon has reduced to five per cent following heavy rain in the last few days under the influence of a low pressure. Odisha has recorded 1005.9 mm rainfall against the normal of 1059.4 mm between June 1 and September 16. While two districts have received excess rain and 24 are in the normal category, only four have reported shortfall.

From September 1-16, the state has received 222.6 mm rainfall, which is 54% more than the normal, and 94% of the monthly average of 235.7 mm.
