Hyderabad: The team representing actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna has filed a cybercrime complaint in Hyderabad over alleged online harassment and the circulation of fake content targeting the couple.
The complaint comes amid a wave of social media discussions involving the two actors, with their team alleging that some posts go beyond criticism and involve the deliberate spread of misinformation.
According to a press release, a representative of the Virosh team personally submitted the complaint, flagging various forms of online content, including allegedly fabricated claims, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and targeted harassment.
The team has also provided links and supporting material to help authorities investigate the matter.
The complaint follows online conversations about the couple after their recent appearance on a popular celebrity talk show drew criticism.
Addressing the controversy, the team said it respects the public’s right to express opinions but stressed that freedom of speech should not be used to present unverified claims or manipulated content as fact.
In its statement, the Virosh team said, “While we fully respect freedom of speech, individual opinions and the right to express criticism, there is a clear distinction between expressing an opinion and presenting fabricated, manipulated or materially misleading claims as facts.”
The team has also urged authorities to investigate whether the content forms part of a coordinated or paid campaign, if the evidence supports such a possibility.
It added that each instance of allegedly unlawful content, including its creation, reposting or circulation, would be examined separately, with legal action pursued wherever warranted.
The team clarified that the complaint was not intended to curb criticism or prevent people from expressing their views about the actors.
Instead, its concern was the alleged circulation of fabricated material presented as genuine information.
It also urged social media users to verify claims before sharing them and to avoid treating speculation as fact.
The Virosh team reiterated its intention to pursue the matter through legal channels to protect the reputations of both actors.
The complaint has reportedly been received by the authorities, who are expected to examine the submitted material and determine the next course of action.
