Cyclone-Hit People Leave Relief Camp In Gajapati
Paralakhemundi: About 102 people of 21 families of Rageijholi village left the relief camp at Khajuripada in Odisha’s Gajapati district late on Monday, alleging that they were not provided adequate food by the district administration
According to sources, about 102 people of Rageijholi village in Khajuripada panchayat of Nuagada block in Gajapati district had taken shelter at the cyclone shelter at Khajuripada following a landslide near their village due to heavy rain triggered by the very severe cyclonic storm Titli on October 11.
The villagers left the shelter on Monday night and later staged a road blockade Rageijholi the following morning, demanding compensation and rehabilitation.
Talking to the media, the villagers said all houses were completely damaged in the landslide and there was every likelihood of a fresh landslide at any moment, because of which they are scared of returning to the village.
Senior officials, including the sub-collector, the local BDO and the SDPO, reached the spot and interacted with the agitating villagers.
However, the villagers told them that they will continue the road blockade till the district administration rehabilitates them in other areas with adequate compensation.
