New Delhi: Encouraged by the massive response to Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, the star is reportedly ready to roar on the big screens with the sequel of his other iconic hit, Border. According to reports, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sunny Deol are set to play the lead roles in this war-driven movie. The film will be directed by filmmaker JP Dutta’s daughter Nidhi Dutta. JP Dutta is the director of the 1997-film Border, which was based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war. The movie’s shooting is reportedly scheduled to start next year. There has been no official confirmation from the makers about the same.
According to a report by IANS, Nidhi Dutta is currently penning the script of Border 2. She envisions this upcoming movie as the biggest war film in India. Unlike its prequel, the movie aims to showcase the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The movie will aim to cover the inclusive aspects of the 1971 war. The narrative is also expected to interweave personal stories of war heroes and martyrs to add a human touch to this epic war movie. The pre-production of the movie began in 2022, as per the reports of IANS. It involved multiple trips to Delhi to obtain necessary permissions from the Defence Ministry to secure real locations for shooting. The makers are trying to keep the movie as authentic as possible by using real locations and names of the martyrs.
Just like her father, who was adamant about creating a story that could do justice to the legacy of Border, Nidhi Dutta also aims to pay tribute to the historical events of the 1971 war.
The final list of the names is still under wraps, according to the report. The movie will reportedly go on floors in early 2024. Actor Sunny Deol recently admitted that the making of Border 2 was initially planned in 2015. But due to the series of flop films of the actor, the makers took the backfoot from the film. Now, after making his comeback with Gadar 2, the makers have finally decided to start the production of the film.
