Night Temp Drops Below 10°C At 6 Places, Kirei Coldest In Odisha For 2nd Day
Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing cold wave conditions, Kirei in Sundargarh district was the coldest places in Odisha for the second consecutive day, recording 7.7 degree Celsius, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Monday.
The mercury plummeted to 10 degree Celsius and below at five other places – Sundargarh (8.5), G Udayagiri in Kandhamal (8.6), Rourkela in Sundargarh (8.9), Koraput (9), 4.8 degrees below normal, and Jharsuguda (9.6), 2.5 degrees below normal. Similarly, Phulbani and Ranital in Bhadrak recorded 10.5 degree Celsius each, followed by Semiliguda in Koraput (10.7), Keonjhar (11.4) and Daringbadi (11.5).
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 17.2 and 18.5 degree Celsius, respectively, 2.8 and 3.3 degrees above normal.
Dense fog was also seen in Cuttack, Gopalpur and Balangir, and shallow and moderate fog in Chandbali, Angul, Bhawanipatna and Baripada this morning.
Notably, North India is experiencing severe cold waves, dense fog and snowfall under the influence of western disturbance. Delhi recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 3.3 degrees Celsius on Monday morning. The MeT Department said “cold to severe cold” day conditions are likely to continue in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till January 16, and in isolated pockets till January 17.
The weather agency has also forecast light rain at some places in Odisha from January 17.
