Following a complaint filed by the health worker, Vigilance officials had caught Dr Rout accepting the bribe and arrested him. Later, the Vigilance filed the chaegesheet in the court.

Hearing the case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack convicted Dr Rout, who is presently serving as medical officer in District Headquarters Hospital of Bhadrak under PC Act, 1988. The court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months.
