Campus 2 Of Bhubaneswar’s IMS & SUM Hospital Welcomes 1st Batch Of MBBS Students
Bhubaneswar: The first batch of 150 MBBS students of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital’s second campus, at Phulnakhara on NH-16, were welcomed at an inauguration ceremony on Monday.
As students from across the country entered the new academic building of the institute — the second medical college under Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University – the university’s Founder President Prof. (Dr) Manojranjan Nayak congratulated them and wished them a great future in the profession.
“Learn and study with purpose. You’ll not only need to treat and heal patients but become a source of hope and comfort for those in pain,” he said in a message read out during the programme.
Prof. (Dr) Nayak assured the students that the institution will go out of the way to ensure they didn’t lack anything in their academic pursuit.
The Phulnakhara institute, which was operating with 700 beds, exceeded the National Medical Commission’s guideline by having 30 per cent more faculty members than the requirement, he said.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr) Prasanjeet Mohanty, former Dean of IMS and SUM Hospital Prof. (Dr) Gangadhar Sahoo, Dean of IMS and SUM Hospital, Campus 2 Prof. (Dr) Arakhita Swain, Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Lenka and Dean (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das also addressed the students.
