Balangir: Tension prevailed in Odisha’s Balangir town on Tuesday as the locals staged a road blockade after a truck ran over a security guard of a shop.
According to sources, the security guard, Siddharth Pradhan, was standing in front of jewellery shop at Patna Chowk in the town as per his duty in the morning. At the time, the truck came in high speed and crashed into the shop.
As a result, Pradhan came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot. The incident sparked off resentment among the locals.
The agitated people staged a road blockade along with Pradhan’s body in front of the Collector’s office, demanding adequate compensation for the family of the deceased.
They said Pradhan, who was the only earning member of his family, lost his life due to careless driving by the truck driver in inebriated condition. They demanded a compensation of Rs 60 lakh for his family.
As the vehicles got stranded on both sides of the truck due to the blockade, the police rushed to the spot. As they tried to disperse the agitating people, the latter resisted. However, they relented after the police assured them of taking up their demand with the authorities.
