Odisha Capital Shivers At 9.9 Degree Celsius
Bhubaneswar: An intense cold wave has gripped the entire state normal life was thrown out of gear. The capital Bhubaneswar recorded the lowest temperature after 12 years at 9.9 degree Celsius on Monday.
Talking to the media, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr H. R. Biswal said that the capital city had recorded 9.1 degree Celsius in December 1996, while it had lowest ever temperature of 8.6 degrees recorded in January 1992.
According to a release by the Meteorological Centre, the mercury came down to below 10 degree Celsius at 11 places in the state with Phulbani emerging as the coldest at 6.5 degree Celsius.
Besides, the temperature also plummeted to below 10 degree Celsius in Balasore (9.1), Angul (7.6), Jharsuguda (9.5), Keonjhar (7.2), Sambalpur (9.5), Sundargarh (9), Titlagarh (9), Sonepur (8) and Daringbani (in Kandhamal) (7).
Apart from this, the temperature remained at 10 Degrees in Chandbali (10.7), Cuttack (10.4), Baripada (10), Hirakud (10.3), Talcher (10), Bhawanipatna (10.5) and Balangir (10).
The release said that there will be further fall in the night temperature in the next 48 hours from December 26, while there will be no change in the weather condition till December 31.
