Mumbai: Standup comedian Kunal Kamra seems to believe that it would be better to check into a mental hospital rather than participate in Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss.
DNA has reported that Kamra shared a screenshot of a chat on Instagram, showing a casting director reaching out to him about participating in the show. “I am handling the casting for this season of Bigg Boss and your name came up as someone they might find interesting. I know it might not have been on your radar, but honestly, it’s such a mad platform to show your real vibe and win over a massive audience. What do you think? Should we talk about it?”, the message states.
“I would much rather check into a mental hospital…,” Kamra shot back in his characteristic tongue-in-cheek manner.
It is not clear whether Kamra was being considered for Bigg Boss OTT Season 4 or Bigg Boss 19, but the post has gone viral on social media, particularly as several netizens are following the comedian’s actions after the Eknath Shinde episode.
Three FIRs have been registered against Kamra at the Khar police station in Mumbai after his comments against Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. The episode, in which Kamra didn’t mention Shinde by name, but dropped enough hints to make his identity clear, was shot at a studio in Khar that was later vandalised by members of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction).
The police have issued three summons to Kamra but the comedian, who is apparently in Tamil Nadu, has not responded. Rather, he filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, seeking quashing of the FIRs. The petition states that the FIRs infringe upon his fundamental right to freedom of expression under Article 19 and the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution. The matter is scheduled to be heard by the bench of Justice S V Kotwal and Justice S M Modak on April 21.
