New Delhi: Businessman Robert Vadra, who is Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband and brother-in-law of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday said he was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate again as part of a political vendetta. “Whenever I speak for the people, when I speak up for the minorities, highlight the flaw of the present government or when I am thinking to join politics, these people (the ruling party) misuses the agencies,” he told reporters while marching towards the ED office in Delhi.
He was earlier summoned on April 8. His statement will likely be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The 56-year-old businessman marched to the ED office as Congress supporters chanted ‘jab Modi darta hai, ED ko aage karta hai’, or ‘whenever Modi is scared, he calls “on the ED.’
“There is nothing in the case. For the last twenty years, I have been summoned 15 times and interrogated for more than 10 hours every time. I have submitted 23000 documents…” he claimed.
What’s the Robert Vadra case?
The case involving Vadra is about the purchase of land in Haryana – by his company, Skylight Hospitality – in 2008 for Rs 7.5 crore. Shortly after he got a permit to develop a housing society and the land value spiked. He then sold it to real estate developers DLF for Rs 58 crore.
The Congress was in power in the state at the time with Bhupinder Hooda as the state’s Chief Minister. The BJP has repeatedly accused the Congress of stealing land from farmers to give to Vadra.
