New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday firmly distanced itself from incendiary remarks made by its MPs, Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma, against the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India. Party president J.P. Nadda took to X, clarifying that the statements reflected personal opinions and were not endorsed by the party. “The BJP has nothing to do with the comments of Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma… The BJP absolutely rejects them,” Nadda stated.

Both MPs have been warned and asked to refrain from making similar comments in the future.

BJP Reaffirms Faith in Judiciary

Reiterating the party’s stance, J.P. Nadda emphasized that the judiciary is a pillar of Indian democracy, and BJP has always respected judicial rulings.

“The BJP believes that courts are integral to democracy and constitutional protection,” he added, asserting that the party has “gladly accepted the orders and suggestions of the courts.”

AIMIM’s Owaisi Lashes Out at BJP

Reacting sharply to the remarks, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi called BJP leaders “tubelights,” accusing them of undermining the judiciary.

“You people are in power and so radicalised that you’re threatening the court with religious war. Modi ji, stop them before the country becomes weak,” he said.

Owaisi referenced Article 142 of the Constitution, asserting the Supreme Court’s authority to ensure complete justice and slamming Dubey for ignorance of constitutional provisions framed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

What the MPs had remarked

  • Nishikant Dubey criticized judicial activism. “If the Supreme Court is going to make laws, we should shut down Parliament,” he said. He went further, controversially blaming Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud for civil unrest.
  • Dinesh Sharma echoed Dubey, claiming that the judiciary was overstepping its mandate. “No one can challenge the President… when Parliament passes a law, it must be respected,” he added.
