New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Delhi airport on Wednesday morning after his arrival from Saudi Arabia, as he took stock of the situation following the terror attack in Pahalgam.

Officials said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was also part of the meeting.

The Prime Minister was briefed by the officials immediately upon his return amid the nationwide shock and outrage over the most gruesome attack targeting tourists in the Valley in a long spell of time, PTI reported.

On Tuesday, terrorists struck at a prime tourist location in Pahalgam in south Kashmir, killing at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring several others, according to officials.

The deceased included two foreigners — from the UAE and Nepal — and two locals, they said.
Following the deadly terror strike, Modi cut short his trip to Saudi Arabia to return on Wednesday morning, while Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar on Tuesday evening to spearhead the security measures.

The prime minister has vowed that these behind the attack will not be spared and brought to justice.

Before his early departure, Modi held bilateral talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and co-chaired the Strategic Partnership Council.

Both leaders condemned the attack and reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat terrorism. They also agreed to form two new ministerial committees, including one focused on defence, and collaborate on setting up two refineries in India.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Jammu and Kashmir to spearhead on-ground security measures in the wake of the attack, which has raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians and tourists in the region.

As per reports, all mortal remains of tourists killed in Pahalgam have been brought to Srinagar in Kashmir. Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday laid wreaths on the bodies of 26 people killed in the attack and assured the survivors that the perpetrators of the dastardly act would be brought to justice, officials said.

Shah laid the wreaths on the coffins of the victims of the terror attack at the Police Control Room here.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid their tributes to the victims, the officials said.
