New Delhi: A 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan at 1.44 am on Saturday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, with coordinates at 29.67 N latitude and 66.10 E longitude. No immediate damage or injuries were reported.
This was the fourth earthquake to hit Pakistan in recent weeks.
On May 5, a 4.2-magnitude quake shook Pakistan at 4 pm IST, with tremors originating near the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, close to the Afghanistan border. The NCS said that tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, increasing the likelihood of aftershocks.
A 4.2-magnitude earthquake was also reported in Afghanistan at 12.35 pm IST the same day.
On April 30, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck at 9:58 pm, with an epicentre at 31.08°N and 68.84°E, and a depth of 50 km. The strongest was on April 12, measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale at a shallow depth of 10 km.
Pakistan is located at the intersection of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, placing it in a region of high seismic activity.
