New Delhi: The Government of India will evacuate citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka, apart from its own, from war-torn Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed. Citizens of these two neighbouring countries have been asked to get in touch with the Indian Embassy in Iran for arrangements to be made.
“On request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy’s evacuation efforts in Iran will also cover Citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka,” the Indian Embassy posted on X.
The citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka have been asked to reach out to the Embassy, either on the Telegram channel or over the emergency contact numbers 989010144557; +989128109115; +989128109109.
Meanwhile, efforts to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran are continuing. On Saturday, a third special evacuation flight with 117 Indian nationals from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in Delhi as part of Operation Sindhu. The total number of Indians who have returned home so far is 517, according to the MEA.
Lauding the successful evacuation, India’s minister of state for external affairs Randhir Jaiswal posted on X that: “A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan landed in New Delhi at 0300 hrs on 21st June, bringing Indians from Iran home. So far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu.”
Operation Sindhu will now be extended to Israel, The Indian government has said. The MEA has said that it has decided to evacuate those Indian nationals who wish to leave Israel. Their travel from Israel will be facilitated through the land borders and thereafter by air to India, it was clarified. The evacuation of Indian nations from Israel is likely to begin from Sunday.
Requesting Indian nationals to register themselves with the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv, the government said: “In view of the above, the Embassy of India in Tel Aviv would be making arrangements for the evacuation of Indians.”
