Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, on Wednesday approved a proposal to carve out a new police district at Rairangpur by bifurcating the existing Mayurbhanj police district

According to an official release, the decision was taken for effective policing and efficient public service delivery in both police districts. “This newly created Rairangpur Police district would comprise of 2 SDPO (SDPO Rairangpur & SDPO Karanjia ) and 14 police stations – Rairangpur, Rairangpur Town, Badampahada, Gorumahisianai, Bisoi, Tiring, Bahalda, Jamda, Karanjia, Thakurmunda, Mahuladiha, Raruan, Ghagarbeda and Jashipur,” it said.

These police stations apart, there will be five outposts and two beat houses, it added.

To bolster policing and emergency response infrastructure, the Cabinet also discussed a proposal to create 4,195 posts across various ranks in the Home Department. It also approved construction of dedicated buildings for the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and Mirror Emergency Response Centre (MERC), aimed at improving resilience and ensuring 24/7 emergency response services, the release said.

A total of 645 emergency response vehicles will be deployed to ensure faster and more efficient on-ground action during crises, ti said.

The Cabinet also gave the go-ahead for continuing with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial 112 scheme for 2025–26 to 2029–30, with a total proposed outlay of Rs 2,260.89 crore. The ERSS platform integrates police, fire, and ambulance services for swift and coordinated responses to distress calls.
