Bhubaneswar: In a display of his government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has dismissed Dr Karunakar Rout from government service.
Rout earlier served at the community health centre (CHC) at Madhuban in Jajpur district and was later transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak, where he worked in the mental health and cancer department.
The action comes following a graft case filed by the Cuttack Vigilance Department, in which Rout was found guilty by the Vigilance Court. Departmental proceedings had also been initiated against him and he was placed under suspension earlier. Now, he has been convicted by the court in its final verdict.
The Chief Minister has asserted no corrupt official would be spared, emphasising ethical governance across all administrative sectors. The dismissal signals intensified scrutiny and accountability measures, with the anti-corruption agency asked to aggressively pursue cases against officials accused of misconduct.
