New Delhi: The Pakistani government is aiding the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) in rebuilding its headquarters Markaz Taiba at Muridke, Indian intelligence agencies have reported.

The terror facility was reduced to rubble by Indian Air Force (IAF) strikes on May 7, marking the start of Operation Sindoor. The precision strike flattened key buildings, including cadre accommodation, weapons storage, and the group’s “Umm-ul-Qura” training blocks.

This has crippled the operational capabilities of the globally proscribed terror outfit.

It has now come to light that Pakistan is directly funding the reconstruction of the headquarters. While the LeT has estimated that the reconstruction will cost PKR 15 crore, Islamabad has already allocated PKR 4 crore to it.

According to reports, senior commanders Maulana Abu Zar and Yunus Shah Bukhari are overseeing the project, with a deadline set for February 5, 2026. That is the day when the LeT holds its annual Kashmir Solidarity Day convention

“LeT cadres have also launched fundraising campaigns under the guise of “flood relief”, a dossier on the matter states.

This is repeat of a historical pattern where humanitarian aid was diverted to terror infrastructure. In 2005, nearly 80% of earthquake relief funds collected by LeT’s front, Jamaat-ud-Dawa, were channeled into building militant camps.

The rebuilding effort reflects Islamabad’s double standards on counter-terrorism and signals the likelihood of fresh cross-border attacks being planned from Pakistani soil. Pakistan has been telling the international community that it is committed to fight terrorism while its Army and ISI remain complicit, ensuring LeT’s survival and resurgence.

The Markaz Taiba in Muridke not only serves as residences to major commanders of the LeT but is the epicenter for radicalization and various training courses like intelligence gathering and arms handling.

Established in 2000, the Markaz Taiba is the most important training facility of the LeT located in Nangal Sahdan, Muridke, Sheikhupura, Punjab, Pakistan. It is known to enroll around 1,000 students in different courses annually, ensuring a steady flow to the LeT. Osama Bin Laden had financed Rs 10 million for construction of a mosque and guest house there.

It has been established that all the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai attack including Ajmal Kasab were imparted ‘Daura-e-Ribbat’ (intelligence training) at this facility. David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the prime conspirators of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, had visited Muridke along with Abdul Rehman Sayed @ Pasha, Haroon and Khurram (co-conspirators) on instructions of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
