Lahore: Police have detained Sulaman Qadir, son Pakistan’s legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, over charges of sexual assault.
The 41-year-old Sulaman, himself a retired first-class cricketer, was nabbed by police after an FIR was filed against him based on a complaint by a housemaid.
According to the FIR, Sulaman has been accused of sexually assaulting the complainant at his farmhouse, reported PTI.
The maid, who worked at the Sulaman’s house, claimed that he forcibly took her to his farmhouse and raped her.
Police are awaiting the report of the househelp’s medical check-up to confirm she was sexually assaulted.
Meanwhile, Sulaman has been taken into custody for questioning.
The 41-year-old Sulaman, one of four sons of the late Qadir, played 26 first-class and 40 List A matches between 2005 and 2013. He runs the Abdul Qadir Cricket Academy in Lahore.
Qadir was an acclaimed spinner of his time, credited with reviving the art of leg-spin bowling in the 1980s.
Qadir played 67 Tests, bagging 236 wickets. He also played 104 ODIs for Pakistan, claiming 132 wickets.
Qadir died at the age of 63 in September 2019.
