Bhubaneswar: A woman died while her husband continues to battle for life after allegedly consuming poison following a bitter domestic dispute at Barabhuja Basti under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar.
According to police sources, the couple had been married for about six years and worked as labourers. The couple reportedly frequently quarrel over the husband’s alcohol addiction. They consumed poison following an intense argument a couple of days ago. They were subsequently rushed to Capital Hospital, where the wife, B Sapna Patra died during treatment. Her husband, Jitendra Patra, remains in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed that Sapna’s body will be handed over to the family following a postmortem, which is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
Khandagiri Police have registered a case of unnatural death and plan to question Jitendra once his condition stabilises to determine whether the incident was driven solely by a domestic dispute or if other factors contributed.
