New Delhi: Refusing to entertain a plea filed by Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party seeking to set-aside the entire 2025 Bihar Assembly election results on the ground that the same was won illegally by distributing Rs 15,600 crores cash to voters, the Supreme Court observed that those rejected by voters must not use the judiciary as a tool to regain popularity.

The bench comprised Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. “The public has rejected you, but now you are using the judicial platform to gain popularity… Do not approach courts for publicity after losing elections…” the CJI said, as quoted by India TV.

Why did Prashant Kisor moved court?

According to reports, Kishor had approached the Supreme Court alleging that the Women’s Employment Scheme payments were transferred into beneficiaries’ bank accounts just before voting. He had alleged that these payments influenced the election outcome. However, the Election Commission had refused to entertain his plea. Following this, Kishor moved the top court.

What did the court say?

“In an election petition, you raise issues related to one election or one constituency. You are asking for the entire election to be cancelled in a single petition. It has no qualification,” the court observed, reported India TV.

“We can’t issue notice like this. There is a procedure. It is just a composite election petition. Because you lost elections you say set-aside the entire election result. What is this view of political party who has lost everything in the election then you want to come here.  Even that issue (on welfare policies) we won’t like to have a political party before is. It must be some public spirited person. Because if we entertain this, if this part gets to power they will do the same thing” the CJI reportedly remarked during the hearing.
