New Delhi: The CPI(M) on Sunday alleged that Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas was ‘brutally attacked’ by the Delhi Police and later dropped by the roadside amid protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas was brutally attacked by the Delhi Police. He was later dropped by the roadside, visibly injured and in distress. Delhi Police has crossed all limits,” CPI(M) posted on X, and shared a video of Brittas needing help from one person and a cop to get out of a Delhi Police bus and walk up to an autorickshaw.

There is no mention of where and how Brittas was injured. He was among dozens of protesters detained on Sunday while marching towards Jantar Mantar from the Inner Circle of Connaught Place and Rajiv Chowk on the second day of the protest called by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
Brittas had been detained on Saturday also, when police detained nearly 7,000 people.
The SFI said in a statement that its all-India president Adarsh M Saji, Delhi state secretary Sooraj Elamon, central executive committee member Abhijith Manilal and hundreds of its members were detained at Rajiv Chowk.
AISA president Neha Bora, who had called for a demonstration at RK Ashram Marg at 2.30 pm, was detained along with other protesters near Vijay Chowk.
The detentions came even after the Supreme Court, in a special Sunday sitting, barred detention of peaceful, unarmed protesters and ordered restoration of normal Metro and railway operations in Delhi.
Delhi Police have registered 20 FIRs so far on Sunday. Among the charges are assault on police personnel and obstruction of public servants in the discharge of their duties, PTI reported.
