Cuttack: Shocking visuals have emerged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Odisha’s Cuttack, showing an elderly female patient tumbling to the floor after the bed’s side railing reportedly gave away.
According to sources, the incident took place in the ICU of the Medicine ward of the hospital, which is on the first floor of the building.
The clip has gone viral, leading to public anger, with many highlighting serious lapses in patient safety and hospital infrastructure at one of the state’s leading government medical facilities. This is particularly concerning because the fall occurred in the ICU, where patients are supposed to receive the highest level of monitoring and care. Eyewitnesses alleged that the railing was either defective or poorly secured. Social media users condemned the negligence, demanding accountability from hospital authorities.
While an official statement from SCBMCH regarding the patient’s current condition or preventive measures is awaited, sources said that the authorities have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
