Tarn Taran: A viral video from a wedding in Tarn Taran district of Punjab has ignited widespread discussion online after viewers circulated claims that the bride was showered with Rs 85 crore in cash during the celebrations. Several NRIs from Australia and Canada attended, sources cited in a Times Now news report said.
According to media reports, the footage, from a marriage ceremony held on 14 February 2026, shows currency notes being tossed into the air and falling around the bride while guests dance to music — a display that many social media users celebrated as an extravagant, high-spending moment.
Family and Organisers Refute Viral Claims
However, the groom’s family has strongly denied the towering figures shared online. According to Sikander Singh, the groom’s brother, while money was indeed showered as part of the festivities — a common gesture at Punjabi weddings — the amount was nowhere near Rs 85 crore. They clarified that the actual cash distributed was around Rs 2 lakh.
Event organisers and the DJ who worked at the function supported the family’s account, estimating that the total cash involved, including some dollar notes, was closer to Rs 3 lakh and not crores as claimed in viral posts, according to reports.
Despite these clarifications, the video continues to draw attention and mixed reactions online. Some social media users have praised the celebratory spirit and grandeur captured in the clip, while others criticised what they perceive as ostentatious display of wealth at a personal event.
