Odisha Higher Education Department Invites Applications for New Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur UniversityBhubaneswar:
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Higher Education Department has issued a fresh advertisement, seeking applications to the post of Vice-Chancellor at Berhampur University (BU) in Ganjam district.
The notification, released on Wednesday, comes as the four-year term of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Prof Geetanjali Dash, is set to conclude on May 6. Dash has been serving as Vice-Chancellor since her appointment in May 2022.
According to the official notification, eligible candidates must be eminent academicians with a proven track record in administration and a comprehensive professional profile. Applicants are required to possess at least 10 years of experience as a Professor in a university system or an equivalent senior position in a reputed academic or research institution. The upper age limit has been set at 66 years as on August 7, 2026. The selected Vice-Chancellor will serve a four-year term.
Applications must be submitted via email by May 24, 2026, with hard copies required to reach the authorities through speed post on or before May 29, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a three-member selection committee comprising eminent educationists. The final appointment will be made by the Governor, who serves as the Chancellor of all state universities.
This recruitment drive for Berhampur University follows a broader effort by the state to fill leadership positions in its public universities. Earlier this month, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati appointed Vice-Chancellors for 14 state universities after a prolonged delay that had drawn criticism from opposition parties over vacant posts and its impact on academic administration. The process was guided by the Odisha University (Amendment) Act, 2024, with applications invited in 2025 and scrutiny conducted through dedicated selection committees.
