Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday asserted that the Persian Gulf does not serve as a platform for external powers to assert control, in a pointed reference to the United States amid ongoing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking on Persian Gulf National Day, Pezeshkian emphasized that attempts to enforce a naval blockade or maritime curbs on Iran are bound to collapse, ANI reported.
In an X post, he wrote, “Persian Gulf- Not a Theater for Imposing Foreign Wills; Strait of Hormuz- Symbol of National Sovereignty and Iran’s Role in Regional Security; Iran Is the Guardian of the Security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz; Any Effort to Impose a Maritime Blockade on Iran Is Doomed to Failure.”
Pezeshkian lauded the valour of Iran’s navy as evidence of the nation’s pivotal function in upholding regional peace and critical pathways for energy shipments.
He pointed to foes redirecting their coercive tactics toward economic and sea-based spheres, deeming naval blockades and limits on Iran’s sea commerce as opposed to global norms. He cautioned that the US and the Zionist regime would bear blame for any instability in the Persian Gulf.
On April 26, Pezeshkian affirmed Iran would shun talks amid coercion, intimidation, or encirclement, according to Mehr News Agency.
The president described US-imposed maritime limits as overt violations of ceasefire pacts and contrary to the United Nations Charter. He noted these steps, paired with hostile language, erode trust in America’s dedication to diplomacy.
Earlier on Thursday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) argued the Trump administration had pivoted from “managing the world’s energy” to “disruption,” positioning Iran at the heart of a “coalition against disruption.”
The IRGC framed the disruption initiative as a US ploy to curb China, Russia, and Europe.
In its X post, the IRGC declared, “The Trump administration shifted from the strategy of ‘managing the world’s energy’ to ‘disruption,’ and a maritime blockade began as part of the grand disruption project to contain China, Russia, and Europe; but after 20 days, this assessment is deepening in the White House that the project has failed and Tehran has become the center of the ‘coalition against disruption’.”
