Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for several districts of the state, including the state capital of Bhubaneswar, for Wednesday afternoon.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur at one or two places in the districts of Nayagarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Koraput, Balasore and Bhadrak till 5.10 pm. Similar warning has been issued for Boudh, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malakangiri, and Khurda, including Bhubaneswar till 4.30 pm.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from thunderstorm and lightning strikes.
The IMD has also issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj during the afternoon/evening hours. Similar weather with wind speed of 40-50 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in e districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.
There is also a warning of hot and humid conditions for isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh districts on June 3.
The state may witness a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-3°C during the next 3 days, according to the midday bulletin.
