Bhubaneswar: Amid the rapidly changing political configurations in Odisha, speculation is now rife over the possible entry of former Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Pravat Biswal into the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Ahead of a major joining programme of the BJP planned for Sunday afternoon, it is being speculated in political circles that Biswal may formally join the saffron party along with many supporters.
On the other hand, opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is reported to be making desperate efforts to prevent the party organisation in Kataka from getting further weakened. BJD leaders are stated to be holding closed-door meetings in a bid to work out plans to keep the flocs together.
According to sources, the ruling BJP is set to organise a large-scale induction event, during which Pravat Biswal, along with several of his loyalists, may embrace the party. The development is being seen as a significant political shift in Odisha, particularly in the Kataka region, where Biswal has remained an influential leader.
Observers feel that several BJD councillors, youth leaders and members of the opposition party’s student wing are also likely to join the BJP during the event. Their induction is expected to further strengthen the BJP’s organisational presence across Odisha, particularly in the Kataka region.
Speculation over Biswal’s possible switch gained momentum after his son, Souvik Biswal, visited the BJP’s state headquarters on Saturday. His visit sparked widespread discussion about the veteran politician’s imminent entry into the BJP, although neither Biswal nor the BJP has officially confirmed the development.
Prabhat Biswal has remained an influential political figure in the Kataka region. His possible move to the BJP is being viewed as a significant boost for the party as it continues to expand its political footprint in Odisha.
Political observers are of the opinion that the induction, if confirmed, could reshape local political equations and influence future electoral strategies in the state. All eyes are now on the BJP’s joining programme later on Sunday.
