Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has directed authorities to undertake immediate repair and restoration of roads, bridges, culverts and cross-drainage (CD) works damaged by continuous rains and flooding across the state.
Yamini Sarangi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Rural Development Department, instructed the Engineer in Chief-I and Engineer in Chief-II of Rural Works to launch restoration work on a war footing in all affected areas so that traffic movement can be restored at the earliest.
Odisha’s Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan reviewed the flood situation with Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh and other senior officials after the department received reports from several Rural Works Divisions indicating that incessant rainfall and floodwaters have damaged infrastructure, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to the public.
All field officers have been directed to immediately take up repair and restoration works within their respective jurisdictions by following the prescribed codal provisions.
Officials have also been asked to closely monitor vulnerable locations and take prompt preventive and restoration measures wherever required without compromising on safety or quality.
Adequate precautionary arrangements, including barricading, warning signs and traffic diversion plans, must be put in place at affected sites until normalcy is restored.
The Rural Development Department has instructed engineers to submit a detailed report on the nature and extent of the damage, restoration measures undertaken and geo-tagged photographs of the completed works for further review and necessary action.
