New Delhi: External Affairs minister S Jaishankar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday evening and conveyed India’s “deep concerns” over the “ongoing hostilities” in the Gulf region.
Jaishankar also stressed that commercial shipping and seafarers must not be targeted under any circumstances.
“Had a tele-conversation with FM @araghchi of Iran this evening. Conveyed our deep concerns at the ongoing hostilities in the region. Strongly urged that attacks on commercial shipping and seafarers be avoided under any circumstance. India condemns any such attack by any party,” Jaishankar wrote in a post on X.
Jaishankar stated that Araghchi briefed him on Iran’s views on the ongoing situation.
“Was apprised of Iran’s perspective of current developments and discussions underway. India is always supportive of dialogue and diplomacy,” Jaishankar added.
Earlier in the day, Union minister of state for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh informed Parliament that 10 seafarers are among 16 Indian nationals killed in the Gulf region since the start of the US-Iran war on February 28.
