Mumbai: The trailer of ‘Toxic: A Fairytale’ for Grownups is finally here, offering another glimpse into Yash’s violent and stylised world ahead of the film’s August 26 release.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the pan-India action drama sees Yash in a dual role alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi.
The trailer wastes little time establishing its priorities—Yash, high-octane action, gore and sexual imagery dominate almost every frame.
Yash appears in several avatars, initially introduced as a ruthless killer.
In one sequence, his character vows to eliminate his enemy’s brother even while being held at gunpoint.
A voiceover further portrays him as someone who can effortlessly charm women and make each believe she is special to him.
The trailer also features Yash’s character appearing to disrespect Kiara Advani’s role, while women are shown competing for his attention.
Another sequence features the actor in a revealing appearance.
While the film boasts several prominent female actors, their characters receive little attention in the trailer.
Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth barely get moments to register as the narrative remains firmly centred on Yash and his world of power, violence and women.
The film has had a turbulent journey to the big screen.
‘Toxic’ was initially scheduled to arrive in March, setting up a clash with Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’.
It was subsequently postponed to June, with the makers citing “uncertainty in the Middle East”.
The release was delayed again in May without an immediate replacement date. The makers eventually announced August 26 as the release date on Father’s Day.
‘Toxic’ first made headlines with its first-look video, released on Yash’s birthday on January 8.
The video showed him kissing a woman inside a car before launching into a violent shooting sequence.
While fans welcomed the action-packed glimpse, the intimate scene filmed at a cemetery drew widespread criticism.
The controversy resulted in complaints from a Christian organisation and a state women’s commission, along with an FIR against the makers.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was among those who defended the video.
The teaser faced another round of criticism after its July release, with viewers pointing to the limited presence of the five female leads and what they described as misogynistic imagery.
Despite the backlash, it quickly crossed millions of views on YouTube.
