Thiruvananthapuram: One has heard about protests and agitations in various shapes and forms.
But people eating grass as a form of protest?
In a rare and unique scene, Kerala’s Lower Primary School Teacher rank holders were seen eating grass outside the state secretariat on Saturday.
Their protest is against the state government’s delay in issuing appointment orders.
In a video shared by ANI, the protesters were seen sitting in a queue outside the secretariat, with a bunch of grass kept on a paper before each of them which they are putting inside their mouths.

The five-week-old agitation highlights mounting frustration among the qualified candidates who were ranked in the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) merit list.
The list was published more than a year ago, on May 31, 2025. Yet they are yet to receive appointment letters.
One of the protesters accused the state government of remaining ignorant despite several forms of protest.
“We are LPST rank holders. We have been protesting for 34 days. There is no good news from the government,” the protester told ANI, adding that the government had asked for two months’ time to issue appointment orders.
“I don’t know why they need two months. We are trying different types of protests, but there has been no response from the government. The government is not taking any action towards us and is trying to avoid us,” he added.
The case is linked to alleged irregularities in the evaluation of Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) exam, conducted for Chief-level posts in the State Planning Board, ANI reported. The candidates have claimed that they have been left to wait indefinitely without any update on formal placement.
Kerala Police said last month that a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Inspector General of Police S Ajeetha Begum, will investigate the case.
