Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police will set up special units in all districts to deal with organised and sensitive crime cases, DGP Vinaytosh Mishra said on Saturday.
“Officers in police stations remain busy with local law and order and routine crimes, so they do not get enough time for proper investigation of organised or inter-state crimes. The special units will fill that gap,” the DGP told mediapersons on the sidelines of passing-out parade of the fifth batch of 1,027 constable trainees at Basic Training Institute in Sambalpur’s Burla.
The DGP said each unit will function under the direct control of the concerned Superintendent of Police.
According to Mishra, Odisha Police is placing major emphasis on combating cybercrime and illegal sale and distribution of drugs. Special drives and awareness campaigns are underway to make Odisha drug-free.
The DGP said the government has set up cyber police stations in every district this year, and a State Cyber Command Coordination Centre will be set up soon.
Mishra informed that recovery of stolen mobile phones has improved significantly, from 7 per cent to 27 per cent.
“We are targeting to make it 50 per cent by end of December,” the DGP added.
He appealed to the public to remain cautious about online activities.
“Do not click unknown links or reply to unknown messages. If you are not familiar with online systems, please do not try financial transactions yourself.”
