Bhubaneswar: A 52-minute documentary titled Mamu Gharaku Jatra (A Trip to Uncle’s Home), showcasing the history and traditions of Baragada Dhanujatra, was screened in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Produced by a digital media network, OdishaLIVE, with support from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), the docu-drama focuses on the 79-year legacy of the world’s largest open-air theatre, which reenacts the mythological tale of Lord Krishna and King Kansa. Baragada MP Pradip Purohit attended the screening as Chief Guest, along with actor Anu Choudhury and Sureshwar Satapathy, Secretary of the Dhanujatra Mahotsava Samiti.
Speaking at the event, Purohit highlighted the film’s role as a historical record for future researchers and filmmakers. Nilambar Rath, producer of the documentary, outlined the project’s goal of documenting local folk traditions for wider audiences.
The event included the official poster release and a felicitation ceremony for artists and production crew members. Notable among those honoured was Bhubaneswar Pradhan, who played the role of King Kansa over several years, including the 2025 edition.
Directed by Suresh Patnaik and co-produced by Pranati Parida, Mamu Gharaku Jatra has been released publicly on the OdishaLIVE’s YouTube channel. Dhanujatra, the epic tale of Dwapara Yuga between Lord Krishna and King Kansa.
