New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke lost his grandmother on Saturday, even as he was under detention by the Delhi Police over a proposed agitation in the national capital against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Dipke, who was detained from a flight immediately after it landed in Delhi from Mumbai on Saturday morning, was informed of his grandmother’s demise by the Delhi Police and given a choice to return to Maharashtra to attend her last rites, ANI reported.
It remains to be seen whether he leaves Delhi to be with his family or continues his protest amid the ongoing agitation.
Dipke’s paternal grandmother, Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke, passed away at the age of 85 in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district following a prolonged illness, PTI reported.
She breathed her last at 11.30 am at Dipke’s paternal house in Santuk Pimpri village. She was reportedly ill for a month and was hospitalised in Hingoli earlier.
Her last rites will be performed at 10 am on Sunday.
“As Abhijeet has been detained in the national capital, we could not contact him. But we have contacted his parents, and they are on the way to Santuk Pimpri,” his cousin said.
The activist had met his grandmother on August 15 when he launched the ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign from the Hingoli district, the cousin said.
