Heavy rain to lash Odisha in next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: The regional office of India Meteorological Department (IMD)here has forecast rain/thunderstorm at most places of Odisha during next 24 hours owing to a low pressure formed over the Bay.

According to IMD, under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, a low pressure area was formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood at 8.30 am on Tuesday. Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height, it said.

The cyclonic circulation is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in North Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places in South Odisha.

Strong gusty surface wind from northwesterly direction with speed reaching 45-50 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH in South Coastal Odisha and wind from easterly direction with speed reaching 35-45 KMPH gusting to 55 KMPH in North Coastal Odisha likely to prevail along and off Odisha Coast. Sea condition would be rough to very rough in South Coastal Odisha and moderate to rough in North Odisha coast, it added.

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea in South Odisha coast while signalling caution for those in North Odisha.
