Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested former corporator Ranjita Biswal and seized two guns from her possession.
She was arrested earlier in connection with her alleged links with gangsters Sushil and Sushant Dhalsamant (D-brothers), but was out on bail.
Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh informed that an associate of the D-brothers was arrested on Tuesday and a gun seized from his possession. Based on information obtained during his interrogation, the police raided the former corporator’s house and recovered two guns. She was subsequently arrested.
The Dhalasamant brothers were plotting a crime during the upcoming elections, he added.
On July 24 last year, the Orissa High Court had granted conditional bail to the former corporator of Cuttack Municipal Corporation’s ward no-7 against two sureties of Rs 20,000 each. It had also warned her against influencing any witness and directed her cooperate in the investigation.

In March 2018, the Commissionerate Police had arrested Ranjita for her alleged links with the D-brothers. She was accused of illegally supplying weapons. A firing case was also registered against her at Sadar police station.
