Crocodile Tracking To Begin In Odisha
Bhubaneswar: In a first, the Odisha government is going to track the movement of freshwater crocodiles, Chief Wildlife Warden, Ajay Kumar Mahapatra, told the media on Thursday.
Mahapatra said it has been decided that gharials (fish-eating crocodiles) from Nandankanan zoo will be fitted with radio collars and then released in the Satkosia gorge in Mahanadi river in June. “The forest department has identified the gharials that would be released in the Satkosia gorge in a phased manner,” he added.
Asked about the gharials that were released in the Satkosia gorge earlier, Mahapatra said their whereabouts were not yet known.
